Ferrari is soon going to issue a recall for 23,555 vehicles due to a potential brake issue that could lead to a loss of brake function, according to a report by Motor1. If it’s true, this would be the biggest recall in Ferrari’s history. Interestingly, the iconic Italian marque recalled nearly 10,000 cars in October 2021 and more than 2000 vehicles in China earlier this year for the same issue. As per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the critical issue is related to a faulty design of the brake fluid reservoir cap. It might not function properly, resulting in vacuum formation inside the reservoir, which could result in a potential brake fluid leak leading to partial or complete loss of brakes.
As many as 19 models dating back to 2005 are said to be affected, including series production models like the FF, F8 Tributo, and Portofino, and even limited-production models such as the LaFerrari Aperta. According to the report, Ferrari will start notifying owners by mail about the issue on September 24, 2022.
The customers will be asked to visit a Ferrari dealership where the faulty brake fluid reservoir cap will be replaced by a technician to fix the issue and update the vehicle’s low brake fluid warning message. Obviously, the customers won’t be charged for replacement. Last year, Ferrari has set a new record in terms of global sales and deliveries by shipping 11,155 cars to customers around the world. With the automotive industry already struggling to cope with the acute semiconductor shortage, this recall might spoil the party for the legendary Italian brand.
