Melbourne will soon get a stunning new building whose complex form has been inspired by Grammy award winning artist Beyoncé’s minimalist music video for the track Ghost. The tower will be 226-m high, located on 134 Spencer Street; the project has been undertaken by the Australian firm Elenberg Fraser.
If you’re wondering what is so uniquely “Beyoncé” about the tower, then check out the curvy contours of the design plan. The shape is inspired by the scene in the singer’s 2014 Ghost music video where a trio of bodies are seen swathed in stretchy fabric as they move and stretch to the beats. “For those more on the art than science side, we will reveal that the form does pay homage to something more aesthetic – we’re going to trust you’ve seen the music video for Beyoncé’s Ghost,” said a quote from the studio.
The unique form was developed using Parametric modelling. “This project is the culmination of our significant research,” said the firm. “The complex form – a vertical cantilever – is actually the most effective way to redistribute the building’s mass, giving the best results in terms of structural dispersion, frequency oscillation and wind requirements.”
The Queen Bey herself has yet to comment on the project which is currently without a completion date.
