The world is a divided place. On the one hand, we have people combating a pandemic, haggling with surging cases, wearing masks, getting vaccinated, and maintaining social distancing even during festivities. Then there is another part of the world, one that is smaller, the size of a plane, where Canadian influencers and TV stars party like there is no tomorrow (there won’t be a tomorrow if covid-19 is still not taken seriously). A video of a group of vacationers is doing the rounds where they irresponsibly drank, danced, and vaped their way from Montreal to Mexico aboard a chartered Sunwing flight. These maskless passengers broke every covid-19 related rule and numerous air transport rules.

The plane was chartered by the 111 Private Club, which organized the all-inclusive six-day getaway, the CBC reported. Company founder James William Awad claimed he ‘respected all instructions given by Sunwing’ and called the event a ‘simple party.’ Call it what you may, Mr.Awad, the Canadian Prime Minister, has dubbed the incident- a slap in the face! With the world desperately trying to stay afloat during this omicron outbreak, a frustrated Trudeau shared with reporters, “It’s a slap in the face to see people putting themselves, putting their fellow citizens, putting airline workers at risk by being completely irresponsible. We know how hard people have worked to keep themselves safe, to limit their family gatherings at Christmastime, to wear masks, to get vaccinated, to do all the right things,” Trudeau said.

He added, “I can assure you this is a situation Transport Canada takes extremely seriously, and we are definitely following up on that.” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, and Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said the passengers would face more than just a piece of mind. Each offender will face nearly $5,000 in fines. The video clip was posted by Nathaniel Oliva-Naud and obtained by Journal de Montreal’s Francis Pilon. As per Pilon, the charter’s flight attendants avoided the cabin for most of the flight due to the unruly, maskless passengers, and the airline canceled the group’s flight back to Canada.
