Spanish studio Rodriguez Design’s latest concept is a 275-foot superyacht called Catalina. At first look, I immediately think of it as a yacht made by or for Tiffany. The ample use of blue is reminiscent of the luxury brand. The attention to detail and optimum utilization of space are other highlights of the design. Catalina sports a steel hull and aluminum superstructure penned by Ignacio Rodriguez, who describes the interior styling as “modern and chic” with subtle blue accents and hammered bronze details. The designer has lent plenty of charm to the exterior spread across five oversized decks.
Furniture and arrangements play a key role in making Catalina look refined. Everything is astute, from the aesthetically arranged furniture to the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The beach deck aft spans 1,100 square feet featuring a giant pool with a counter-flow system. Additional space can be set here with fold-out platforms that open with a simple touch of a button and bring you closer to the sea. One cannot ignore the enormous, glass-fronted Jacuzzi highlighting the mezzanine deck.
Two grand L-shaped sofas and a coffee table are perched on the main deck, which also opens to a garage with space for four tenders and four Jet Skis at the opposite end. The fuss-free radiant interiors open with a main salon, a dining area, and a galley. Catalina sleeps 14 guests in 7 rooms divided into two VIP cabins and three double cabins on the lower deck. The lower deck also houses a well-equipped spa, a sauna, a gym, a massage room, a hairdressing salon, and the crew quarters. The sprawling owner’s suite is located on the main deck.
“The styling of the yacht marks the style language direction of the studio coming into 2023: simple yet elegant lines. Not overtly covered in accents or details, subtle and understated yet rich and complex,” says Josh Rodriguez, per Yacht Habour. The upper deck provides a 119 sq. m lounge area made cozy by adding nest-style seating platforms aft, an oversized four-person sun pad, and a U-shaped sofa for six. Cocktails and conversations are conducted without interruption at the two wet bars or the helicopter waiting area that doubles as a lounge with a fully equipped bar area when not in use.
The helipad is suited for an Airbus ACH 145. There is no better spot than the sky deck to take in stunning vistas. The designer has outfitted this vantage point with a hot tub, extensive fixed sun pads, seating for up to eight people, and an aft-facing bar. Catalina performs decently, cruising at 12 knots and a top speed of 16.
