If Dubai police department’s massive supercar fleet was not enough, now the city’s health department has its own supercar ambulance fleet. Yes, you read it right, supercar ambulance! As showcased by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services at the ongoing Gulf Information Technology Exhibition in Dubai, the city’s paramedics will now have a two-seater Lotus Evora in addition to two Ford Mustangs and a Chevrolet Corvette at their disposal to attend medical emergencies. Touted as the fastest ambulance in the world, the Lotus Evora ambulance packs a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 rated at 345 hp, enabling it to sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and hit a 172 mph top speed. Fifty specially trained paramedics will use the car in order to reach patients in rapid time.
Wondering how on earth will they fit in a patient in the two-seater sportscar? Well, they won’t. In fact, the Evora is fitted with an emergency medical equipment kit that comprises of heart rate and blood pressure monitors, a defibrillator and a first aid kit and will only attend the patients and give them first aid. An oxygen supply is crammed inside the trunk. Paramedic Zaid Al Mamari of Dubai Ambulance Services told BBC “anyone who needs to be rescued will care about getting reached in a short time.” At the moment, the Lotus is being paraded around Dubai’s tourist hubs, including the Jumeirah Beach Residences and Burj Khalifa, to impress visitors and ex-pats before being put into full operation by the end of the year.
