If I’d written a host of legendary books which were later turned into a high-ranking drama series – I am sure to be rolling in riches. While this is merely a dream for me, living it up, in reality, is Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. The writer minted a fortune for his work on the GOT books, a part of which he has decided to donate to Northwestern University. The total donation of $5 million will be split into two parts and will go to Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications.
Out of this, $3 million will go towards funding the ‘George R.R. Martin Summer Intensive Writing Workshop’, which will aid journalism professionals who want to get into creative writing. The remaining $2 million will go towards the ‘George R.R. Martin Chair in Storytelling – the title given to the professor chosen to lead the workshop.
Commenting on it, Northwestern University’s President Michael H. Schill in a statement said, “George R.R. Martin is a prolific and iconic author with an international audience. We are so grateful for his generosity to his alma mater, which will inspire and equip the next generation of storytellers at Northwestern.” Previously as well, George R.R. Martin had handed generous gifts to fans who donated to support a wolf sanctuary in New Mexico. Well, for all the money that GOT made – this only seems legit!
