It looks like the angry residents of the Dutch port city of Rotterdam won’t have to throw rotten eggs at the 127-meter Oceanco Y721 superyacht reportedly owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The uber-luxurious sailing yacht finally hit the water for the first time yesterday morning in Alblasserdam and it was spotted being towed without her three massive masts. Back in February, the Y721 superyacht was embroiled in controversy when a new report claimed that the city of Rotterdam will have to temporarily dismantle the central section of the 95-year-old bridge, known by the locals as “De Hef,” to allow the yacht’s three 70-meter tall masts to pass through. More than 5000 locals even signed up to egg the three-masted schooner as a sign of protest. However, a few weeks back, The New York Times reported that Oceanco decided against applying for the bridge-dismantling permit as claimed by a Rotterdam City Council member.

A video of the Oceanco Y721 being launched in the early hours of the August 2 morning was uploaded on the YouTube channel by the name of Dutch Yachting. After being released from the drydock, the vessel was immediately on its journey to the yard’s Rotterdam facilities for the final stages of construction, which includes attaching the masts. Furthermore, the three gigantic 70-meter masts were spotted in transit along Nieuwe Maas. Once the construction is completed, the luxury vessel will head out for its sea trials. The Y721 is expected to be delivered to Jeff Bezos by the end of this year, just in time for the world’s second richest person to ring in the new year with his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez on the new $500 million sailing yacht.

Oceanco Y721
Measuring 127 meters in length, the Y721 is set to become the world’s largest sailing yacht when delivered later this year, snatching away the crown from the current titleholder Sea Cloud. According to several reports, the Y721 is closely inspired by Oceanco’s flagship sailing yacht, the Black Pearl. However, Bezos’s superyacht is a closely guarded secret, and most of its details are unknown. All that is known till now is that it is estimated to be worth around $500 million, making it the most expensive of its kind.

The massive sailing yacht features an aluminum and steel construction with a black hull and a white superstructure. The Y721 will reportedly have its own support boat with a helipad and feature an in-deck swimming pool, an ‘ambient’ cinema, and many other amenities.
