The two historic homes in Kalorama that housed the Textile Museum for 90 years have been sold for $19 million to a private individual. This property has been a residential sale after two years on the market. The selling price was $3 million less than the original listing.
The textile Museum’s founder George Hewitt Myers, commissioned esteemed architect John Russell Pope to build the property. The Adam style estate houses a grand foyer that leads onto checkerboard marble tile floors. The rooms on the ground level are paneled in Italian walnut, cedar and American oak giving them a warm inviting feel.
In 1925, Myers purchased the adjacent residence as well and the two structures are connected by a second storey limestone faced bridge.
This 34,100 square foot area boasts of a garden that is laid out formally in geographic designs with brick arcades and latticed arches.
