The ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has attracted hundreds and thousands of soccer fans from all over the world, which includes super-wealthy enthusiasts of the game who prefer to experience the historic event in the lap of luxury. Since the beginning of the tournament last month, reportedly 20 superyachts have entered Qatari waters, including ultra-luxurious vessels like Al Lusail and Alaiya, which have stayed moored around Doha. One such vessel is the 226-foot Saluzi which can be easily recognized by its colorful graffiti-style design along its side. The superyacht arrived in Doha on November 24 along with its army of 35 staff to play host to rich World Cup fans willing to pay close to $ 500,000 a week to charter the vessel. CNN was recently invited for an onboard tour of the superyacht moored in Doha and given a taste of what it feels like to enjoy the mega event from an ultra-opulent vessel.
Saluzi was originally designed and built by Austal in 2003 as a cruise ship name Tia Moana. However, it was converted into a yacht in 2014. Available for charter around the year, it was designed to offer a relaxed and memorable “beach-house on the sea” experience. One of its highlights is the impressive artwork on the hull created by artist Li Jiwei.
According to the report by CNN, visitors to the superyacht are greeted with a drink. The interior of the vessel was designed by Miami-based Luiz de Basto with the objective of making it suitable for large groups and corporate events. Capable of accommodating 35 guests, the superyacht has five twin cabins, two double cabins, and one VIP cabin.
The vessel is named after a “mystical warhorse of the Tang Dynasty emperor, Taizong,” and its story is depicted through distinctive paintings inside the yacht that match the artwork on the outside. Some of the luxury amenities include a beach club with spa and massage facilities, outdoor cinema, casino table, two jacuzzi tubs, a fully-equipped gym, karaoke, and zero-speed stabilizers for utmost comfort while the vessel is moored. It also has a golf driving range with eco-friendly balls that naturally decompose in water.
When in port, up to 200 guests can be catered for. The yacht is powered by MTU engines which give it a top speed of 12 knots and a cruising speed of 9 knots with a range of 4500 nautical miles.
