When you are an active Instagram influencer who posts everything about your life daily, the lines between reality and the world of social media begin to blur. If they are doing it, they are sharing it, if they are thinking it, they are telling it, and this can go incredibly wrong for some; case in point Jayne Rivera. She must’ve felt dejected at the loss of her beloved father as she wrote in her post, ‘Butterfly fly away. Rip Papi you were my best friend. A life well lived,’ but the pretty influencer failed catastrophically at showing it.
Her actions were dubbed as ‘vile,’ ‘disrespectful,’ and downright disgusting by followers who couldn’t fathom why someone would pose in front of their deceased parents’ casket (while the parent is inside it!)? It wasn’t a candid picture for those thinking it could be a misjudgment, but a well-planned shoot that saw the social media influencer giving typical photoshoot poses as often spotted on Instagram. The gazing directly into the camera shot, smiling, and even the typical glancing over the shoulder shot made it to the Funeral photoshoot on the gram.
Jayne Rivera understood it the hard way- her followers ‘don’t want to know everything about her life, and that was apparent when a large chunk of followers unfollowed her after the distasteful funeral photoshoot. No longer does the Miani-based influencer enjoy 84,800 Instagram followers and 307,300 TikTok followers. One follower rebuked her, stating, “Jayne, delete these pics, apologize for your lack of discretion, or I will stop following you, and I hope others will do the same.” some chanted the ‘unfollow’ mantra exclaiming, “This is a hard unfollow. God rest that man’s soul.” At the same time, another commented, “Unfollowed.”
The model decided to don a trendy black suit dress featuring one long sleeve and stockings in the photoshoot. She is yet to give her response on the backlash, though sometimes silence is truly golden! Fortunately for her, she has since shut down her Instagram account to manage some damage control following the PR nightmare.
