To say that Hermès has always been a visionary brand would not be far from the truth. Their various unique editions of Arceau pocket watches have always tried to combine the progress in watchmaking with the age-old tradition of pocket watches. The latest, Arceau Pocket Volutes from the house takes it a notch higher and boasts of gold marquetry and hand engraving. The volutes or scrolling pattern adorning the cover of this pocket watch goes back to the brand’s origins and is inspired by a Henri d’Origny design for a Hermès silk carré in 1972. This unique timepiece’s cover requires almost 150 hours of work for its surface work alone. Two white gold and rose gold discs are first crafted separately before being assembled and welded together by firing in a furnace followed by a stringent procedure to finish it off.
Hermès Arceau Pocket Volutes is a marvelous piece, to say the least. It also highlights grand feu enameling in the dial, and a cord-strap and pouch in matt Havana alligator complete it. A Manufacture mechanical self-winding H1928 movement brings this pocket watch to life, making it a true epitome of craftsmanship and tradition.
