Influencers have a life that’s framed completely differently from us. Dinners apparently can make or break a fan following and that’s the case that transpired with TikTok star Charli D’Amelio. The 16-year-old, who reigns supreme as TikTok’s most-popular star, lost as many as one million followers in 24 hours after she and sister Dixie exhibited what can be correctly described as abhorrent and rude behavior. Wouldn’t be wrong to call them bratty, or even dramatic as throughout the dinner, Charli and Dixie made faces and gagged in response to their chef Aaron May’s offerings. The dinner was part of the first episode in a new series called “Dinner With the D’Amelios” wherein the series intends to feature her family eating a meal with a different surprise guest, starting with makeup artist James Charles. The dinner commenced with the D’Amelio family and Charles sitting down for a paella dinner prepared for them by private chef Aaron May who explains to the table, “It’s classic paella, and it’s actually an omen of good luck and fortune,” to which Charli scoffs, “Liars.” After everyone at the table urges her to try it, Dixie takes a small bite of the snail before gagging and running outside to vomit, all in front of the chef. Their mom, Heidi, gently chastises her daughter during the scene, covering her face with her hand and saying to Dixie, “So dramatic. Excuse yourself!” Charli then proceeds to ask May who has been inducted as a Chef Extraordinaire into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame if she can just have some dino nuggets instead. If this wasn’t snooty enough at a later point in the video, Charli says, “Ugh, I just wish I had more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil one year after hitting a mil.” Charles quips, “95 million not enough for you?” To which she responds, “Well I was just saying, like, even numbers,” before trailing off with a smile and a shrug.
The internet hasn’t taken kindly to the unkind behaviour as expected and by Thursday night, Charli was sobbing over the loss of 1 million followers. Dixie, whose behavior was arguably more loathsome, has also been losing followers, about 100,000 since Wednesday. She’s gone from 43.9 million to 43.8 million in less than 24 hours. The older D’Amelio sister responded to the backlash with a TikTok, insisting people should ‘know the full story’ before criticizing her and sending her hateful comments.
