The world’s first-ever Nutella store is opening in Chicago’s Michelin Avenue and needless to say it has got to be my permanent hideout! How didn’t this open before? Ok, confession – I’m a Nutella-cholic! Understandably so, each and every element in this diner is inspired by the richness and thickness of Nutella! Right from the hazelnut-shaped ceiling hangings to the dripping Nutella-colored embellishments on the ceiling, it all screams Nutella!
“Not every item on the menu includes Nutella, but everything is inspired by the origins of it,” according to Noah Szporn, the vice president of marketing for Ferrero.
An example of this is the speck ham and gruyere panini. Spec ham is similar to prosciutto but prepared in the same region in Northern Italy as Nutella.
Of course, most dishes on the menu are inculcated with Nutella that will thankfully satisfy even the most stubborn sweet tooth. We highly recommend the Nutella croissant for the first course! If you are absolutely oblivious to the ongoing calorie craze, we’d urge you to experience the liege waffle topped with warm apple compote and hazelnuts then doused in Nutella.
“It’s designed to make you feel like you’re actually walking into a jar of Nutella,” said Angela Baird, the director of operations at BIG Retail, who consulted with Ferrero USA, Nutella’s parent company on creating the space.
With just 11 days to open to the public, we’re convinced the cafe will be stirring up some wind in the “Windy City”.
